How to Report Suspicious or Fraudulent Emails
Fraudulent and malicious emails falsely claim to be a legitimate authority and request an action, normally visiting a website, or opening a document. Usually, when completing these actions your computer becomes infected with a virus.
If you feel that you have received an email like this you can use the PhishAlarm button (in both WebMail and Outlook).
Click the link below to bring you directly to the type of email you’re using:
PhishAlarm button for WebMail (Gmail)
- Begin by viewing the email you think is suspicious.
- Click the PhishAlarm icon in the right hand margin of the screen:
A pop-up will appear that will direct you to “REPORT PHISH”:
This will be followed by confirmation that the email has been reported:
You’ve done it! Your email will be reported as possible phishing.
PhishAlarm button for Outlook
- Begin by viewing the email you think is suspicious.
- Click the PhishAlarm icon in the top ribbon:
Choose “Report Phish” from the drop down menu:
You will shortly receive an email from abuse+noreply@njit.edu alerting you that your potential phish has been reported:
You’ve done it! Your email will be reported as possible phishing.
