NJIT policy requires that all midterm and final exams must be proctored, regardless of delivery mode, in order to increase academic integrity. Note that this does not apply to essay or authentic based assessments. Effective beginning Fall semester 2019, students registered for a fully online course section (e.g., online or Hyflex mode) must be given the option to take their exam in a completely online format, with appropriate proctoring.
Where possible, the Provost’s office and the Office of Digital Learning encourages faculty to use authentic assessment (e.g., projects, presentations, case studies, etc). When that is not an option, faculty are recommended to use solutions that do not require a live proctor—these include two services: Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor and ProctorU’s Record+ (formerly called Review+). Because there were unexpected expenses, NJIT is covering the costs of these services*. In accordance with the policy above, four proctoring solutions are available to use for online course exams:
- Respondus Monitor and LockDown Browser
- ProctorU Record+ (formerly called Review+)
- ProctorU Live+ (for special cases)
- Proctored Webex Exams
Each of these solutions requires a strong internet connection and a computer with a microphone and webcam.
* An exception would be ProctorU Live+ exams that are not scheduled at least 72 hours in advance.
If you do not have a webcam, strong internet connection, or have trouble accessing needed equipment, please contact the Dean of Students office.
