How to install Windows 7
BACK UP ALL OF YOUR IMPORTANT DATA PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
This document has been designed as an easy printed reference during the installation. Print this page before you begin. Your computer must be shut down prior to installation of Windows 7 and you will be unable to check this page until Windows 7 has been installed. Please write down your product key on the printed copy of this page, as you will not have access to it once you start the installation process.
Note: These instructions assume you have already obtained a copy of Windows 7 (from the IST Software Download page ), "burned" the file to a DVD, and obtained a valid Windows 7 product key (from the IST Software Download page, located in the right panel).
- Insert the Windows 7 Professional DVD into your DVD drive, and restart your computer.
- Boot up from the Windows 7 DVD. This is accomplished in various ways, if you are unsure how to do this on your computer, visit the Microsoft Windows 7 Support Page.
- On the "Install Windows" screen, follow any instructions that are displayed, click Next, and then click Install.
- On the "Please read the license terms" screen, read the license terms, check the box next to "I accept the license terms", and click Next.
- On the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click "Custom(advanced)." Note: Selecting upgrade will most likely lead to system corruption.
- On the "Where do you want to install Windows?" page, select the appropriate location and click "Next." The installer may warn you that all information contained on the hard drive will be erased. If you have not yet backed up your data, stop the installation now, and back up your data. Once you have backed up your data, feel free to proceed. If you are having difficulties at this point, visit the Microsoft Windows 7 Support Page.
- Your computer may restart a few times. Do not attempt to shut down your machine during installation. Installation can take a very long time, depending on your computer's hardware.
- Once installation has completed, finish the setup of your computer by filling in any information requested. Many of these options will be based on your personal preferences. At some point, you will be asked to "Type your Windows product key". Please enter the key you obtained from the IST Software Download page.
- Once Windows 7 setup is completed, you may be asked to activate. Connect your PC to the Internet, and follow the on-screen instructions.
