At NJIT, we offer a basic version of Google Gemini with enhanced data protection. This ensures that your chats and uploaded files are not reviewed by human reviewers or used to improve the AI model. NJIT is committed to the responsible use of AI and provides guidance on ethical usage.

Getting Started via Web Browser

  1. Go to gemini.google.com
  2. At the top right, select “Sign in”.
  3. Enter your NJIT email address (UCID@njit.edu). Then, click “Next”.
  4. If prompted, enter your NJIT UCID credentials.

Getting Started via App

  1. Open the App Store (Apple iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) on your device. 
  2. Go to the search bar and type in "Google Gemini". 
  3. Select the "Google Gemini" app from the search results. 
  4. Tap "Get" (Apple iOS) or "Install" (Android), then follow the instructions on your device to proceed with the installation. 
  5. Wait for the installation to be completed. 
  6. Tap "Open" to launch the Google Gemini app and sign in using your NJIT email address.

Google Gemini interactions are compliant with strict privacy standards. Google Gemini is safe for NJIT data and is FERPA compliant. Google Gemini will not use any data, prompts, or responses for any AI training.

  • At NJIT, we use the basic tier of Google Gemini, which is not integrated into the rest of Google Workspace. This means that while the tool offers valuable functionalities, it may not provide the seamless experience of more advanced or integrated versions.

  • Draft reports, memos, and other documents, providing real-time suggestions for grammar, style, and content improvement. Ensure that any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is removed before sharing documents.

  • Manage emails by summarizing long threads, drafting responses, and searching previous messages using natural language queries. Always verify that emails do not contain PII before sending.

  • Analyze data sets and generate insightful reports, helping staff make data-driven decisions. Ensure that any PII is anonymized or removed from data sets.

  • Assist in gathering and summarizing information from various sources, making it easier to conduct thorough research on specific topics.

  • Help write, debug, and optimize code in popular programming languages.

  • Aid in creating and updating presentation content, including generating images and improving layout designs. Ensure that presentations do not include PII.

  • Create onboarding materials and provide personalized learning experiences for staff development. Verify that training materials do not contain PII.
