Using Quizzes to Gauge Engagement
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the usage of videos in courses has skyrocketed. These videos can be anything from class lectures to tutorials for class-related tools. As useful as these videos can be, it can be difficult to determine what information your students are taking away from them.
However, there can be a way to figure that out. Using the Quizzes feature provided by Panopto, instructors can use video quizzes to gauge where their students are at in the course.
After creating a video on Panopto, instructors can edit and place quizzes into the quiz. Using these quizzes, instructors can stop students from skimming the video if they have not completed the quizzes. This encourages students to watch the entirety of the videos being provided to them. Not only that, it provides instructors with a method of seeing how engaged students are with the videos and to test their understanding of the material. After students have taken these quizzes, instructors can review the results to pinpoint any weak spots that may need some more focus and cater future lesson plans to address these weak points.
These quizzes can be both graded and ungraded. Making the quiz graded could provide some more incentive to students, such as making these quizzes into assignments or extra credit points or a homework assignment.
