Pilot Tools
This page includes information on current tools that NJIT has available for usage in the pilot stage.
What is the pilot stage?
NJIT obtains new tools based on community feedback and needs. The pilot stage is a portion of time where it is possible for NJIT users to trial the tool based on a set agreement between NJIT and the tool’s vendor. Commonly, the pilot stage is limited in licensing, so usage is offered on a first-come-first-serve basis. This is also a time where NJIT looks to obtain feedback about the tool from users. The below information includes details on any current tools that are available for piloting. To request access to one of the tools, please fill out the form to Pilot a new NJIT Tool.
Atomic Exams
Atomic Exams (Also known as Atomic Assessments joined with Respondus LockDown Browser) is now available for piloting within Canvas on a course-by-course basis. Atomic Exams is an alternative quizzing tool, providing more advanced features to give you, the instructor, more flexibility in creating your quizzes. To learn more about Atomic Exams, watch this brief demo video.
For those interested, NJIT will have an instructor-based training session with Atomic. Previously, this session was to be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 10:30 AM - 12PM. Unfortunately, the vendor has asked to reschedule. A new date and time along with a calendar link will be posted here when available.
A training was held for NJIT on Thursday, November 2nd from 1 pm - 2:30 PM (Recording & Passcode: zf!.39Cb).
With Atomic, you will be able to:
- Utilize various question types not available in Canvas quizzes to create STEM-based questions with greater ease
- Provide immediate feedback to students after a question has been answered and curate the feedback dependent on their answer
- Provide students the option to try answering a question again after feedback has been given
- Embed an activity or an assignment in a Canvas page containing other content
- Get detailed reports about how students are performing in your Atomic assessments
- Enable Lockdown Browser for high-stakes exams
- Please see this flyer for further information
Is this tool available in Canvas?
- Yes. Atomic Exams is available to pilot until March 15, 2024 on a per-course basis. For all those interested in using this tool in your course, please fill out the form to Pilot a new NJIT Tool and include Atomic Exams as the tool to pilot. Once the request has been received, the Office of Digital Learning will integrate Atomic into your requested course. The availability of Atomic is on a first-come first-serve basis, as licenses are limited during this pilot. A survey will be shared toward the end of the pilot to obtain feedback.
