Any files stored on Panopto that have not been played for four years will be deleted.
In 2023, NJIT introduced Panopto as NJIT’s media repository. Since then, Panopto has been used for storing videos by uploading files directly to njit.hosted.panopto.com or creating Webex/Zoom recordings. These files are stored in the cloud; while NJIT pays for bandwidth and storage, our agreement with Panopto includes NJIT having a media retention policy that automatically deletes unused files.
What is the media retention policy?
If a video has not been viewed for two consecutive years, it will be archived (viewing occurs through njit.hosted.panopto.com, Canvas, or via a shared link). When a video is archived the source file (backup) will be kept for an additional two years. If the source file is not viewed during that time period (four consecutive years), it will be permanently deleted.
Login and search for your video through the "My Folder".
Select a file to play the video (note: it is not necessary to watch the entire video).
Can I download my video?
Yes! Open your video within Panopto, and in the upper-right corner, you will have the option to "Download podcast" as an mp4 file.
Who does this policy apply to?
The media retention policy applies to everyone that has uploaded a file to Panopto. This includes files uploaded directly to Panopto through njit.hosted.panopto.com and Canvas as well as Webex/Zoom recordings saved to the cloud.
