"Double ring" usually signified an external called received outside of NJIT. During the migration, internal phone calls made between the old and new phone systems will experience a "double ring." Additionally, a user will NOT see the caller ID of the called number until the called party answers the phone.
The new Cisco phones have superior audio quality to our old phone system. The speaker phone has also been improved and microphone sensitivity of the new system is greatly improved. The speaker phone can even pick up your whispers, which makes the new Cisco phones ideal for small conference rooms.
During the transition, users on the new phone system cannot forward a call to a user on the old system. This also applies to users trying to forward a call from the old phone to a user with the new phone.
This feature is a design of the phone and cannot be disabled. Please make note that your phone will automatically dial to the number listed when browsing your recent calls if you pick up the handset or press the speakerphone button. It is important to note that this will not work when dialing externally, since the Cisco phone will not dial "9, 1" first to an outside line.
On the old phones it was possible to dial an outside line by simply dialing "9" and then the phone number. On the new Cisco phones, you must dial "9, 1" and then the number. "1" is now required for all area codes.
