1: My "H" drive no longer opens. What happened?
The most common cause of not being able to access your files is that your token has expired or your AFS password is not the same as your Windows password. To renew your token or enter an AFS password:
- Click on the AFS Client icon in the system tray
- Enter your UCID and your AFS password
- Click "OK".
2: Why doesn't my AFS client icon show in the system tray?
If the AFS client doesn't show in the system tray, then:
- Click the "Start" Menu → "All Programs" → "Client" → "Authentication".
- Click Advanced tab.
- Verify that "Start the AFS Client Service whenever this computer starts" is checked.
- Verify that "Always show the AFS Client icon in the taskbar" is checked.
3: How do I check my client configuration?
To checking your Client Configuration:
- Click the "Start" Menu → "All Programs" → "Client" → "Authentication".
- Click Advanced tab.
- Click "Configure AFS Client".
- Verify that the "Cell Name" field contains cad.njit.edu.
- Verify that "Obtain AFS tokens when logging into Windows" is checked.
- Click "OK"
4: How do I restart my OpenAFS client?
In some rare cases, restarting the client is necessary fixes some problems. To do this:
- Click on the AFS Client icon in the system tray
- Click "Advanced"
- Click "Stop Service". If it is not clickable as shown in the image here, then the client is not running.
- Wait a few seconds, then press "Start Service"
- Close the AFS Client window by clicking the "X" at upper right.

5: How do I get tokens on a Windows client?
Method 1
- Click the padlock-shaped icon on the right side of the lower task bar to bring up the AFS Client window
- Click the Obtain New Tokens... button to bring up the authentication window
- Enter your UCID and AFS password

- Click the Start button on the lower left
- Select Programs -> OpenAFS -> Client -> Authentication
- Click the Obtain New Tokens... button to bring up the authentication window
- Enter your UCID and AFS password
