Over the past few months, the NJIT community has received targeted phishing campaigns (https://ist.njit.edu/recent-phishing-scams/). In an effort to help identify these scams enhanced security measures have been implemented within the Gmail web interface. Starting June 7, Gmail will display a warning banner, like the image below, to help identify potentially fraudulent emails.
These alerts will only appear when using the Gmail web interface or the official Gmail apps for iPhone and Android and will not be available when using email programs such as Microsoft Outlook or third-party apps.
Even with these added security features, it is important to remember that there is no single tool that can guarantee the authenticity of an email or link. Always remember to STOP, THINK before responding to any email or text message.
