1. Getting Started:

b. University Computing ID (UCID): The UCID is your main NJIT computing account ID. It’s used to access most services (Moodle, Pipeline, Software Downloads, VPN) – http://ist.njit.edu/ucid.
c. Stay Cyber-Safe: There is a proliferation of malware and phishing scams, and ransomware on the internet, sometimes well-disguised as websites or email. Information on staying safe is available at http://ist.njit.edu/avoiding-phishing-scams/.
d. Password Reset: Change and synchronize all passwords at once using the “Unattended Password Reset” (UPR) tool – http://mypassword.njit.edu.

2. Moodle: Moodle is NJIT’s Learning Management System and is used in face-to-face, online and hybrid courses. Popular features include a class list, the ability to upload files, collect student submitted assignments, grade book, graded quizzes and threaded discussions.

4. Classroom Support:
a. Computer Classrooms: There are Windows, Mac, and Linux labs available. Computer Classrooms (labs) are scheduled by the Registrar’s office - http://ist.njit.edu/software-available-labs/.

e. “Virtual” Classrooms - Online Learning: The Office of Digital Learning offers course design and development assistance. Appointments can be made by contacting the IST Service Desk.
5. My Computing Device
a. Faculty Computer Distribution: IST provides faculty with a “computing device”. The standard is a Windows notebook, but alternatives are available by request and authorization (Macs, tablets, desktops). Computers are typically refreshed every three years. b. NJITDM: Windows computers must join a Microsoft Windows domain. NJITDM is the primary domain for faculty and requires your UCID and NJITDM password to log in.
c. Software Availability: IST provides access to many software titles for download for Windows, Linux, and Mac - http://ist.njit.edu/software/download.php. Usage (including work from home rights) varies by software title and role - http://ist.njit.edu/software-distribution/.

a. Highlander AFS (AFS): The Andrew File System - a distributed, location-transparent, cross-operating system, file name space available for use on personally owned computers, lab computers, servers, high performance computing, etc. - http://ist.njit.edu/afs/.

7. Staying Connected and Communicating with Others
a. Webmail by Google: This is the email system for faculty, students and alumni. Your email address is yourUCID@njit.edu. For more information as well as tutorials visit: http://ist.njit.edu/webmail-google/.
b. Virtual Private Network (VPN): Needed to connect to select services from off-campus (software downloads, accessing NJITDM, AFS file shares, and some library databases). Authentication requires UCID and UCID password - http://ist.njit.edu/vpn/.
c. Wireless Network: “NJITsecure” encrypts network traffic. Users will remain authenticated without having to reenter credentials (login/password). Authenticate with your UCID and NJITDM password. Alternately, the “NJIT” network is an open/unencrypted network intended for guests (call the IST Service Desk to obtain guest credentials) - http://ist.njit.edu/wireless-network/.
8. Highlander Pipeline: A Portal for University Business - http://my.njit.edu
a. Highlander Pipeline - Use “Banner Self Service” to view/update personal information (address, contact). Use “Faculty Services” for class lists, student contact information, email classes, and grade submissions. “Employee Services” allows access to pay stubs, direct deposit, and tax forms.
b. Self Service Banner Finance - Spending: Faculty with start-up funding will use Self Service Banner Finance to access their start-up budgets. Details will be provided by Jessica Jimenez in the Provost’s Office: 973-596- 3215. See the “Banner Documentation” link on the “Faculty/Staff Services” tab for useful documentation and video tutorials on NJIT’s Banner system. Face-to- face training on Banner Finance is offered through the Office of University Budgeting.
c. Electronic Research Administration – Streamlyne: The Research Office will be launching a new electronic research administration system in September. Streamlyne is based on the popular Kuali Coeus system used at many universities. Look for additional information in the near future.
