Virus & Malware Protection Center

The NJIT Virus & Malware Protection Center will help you protect your computer against virus, spyware, adware, and malware attacks and clean it in case of infection.

Follow these 3 easy steps to maintain a clean and healthy computer:

  1. Install McAfee VirusScan on your computer. Please check the categories below (A, B or C) to see which version of the software you are licensed to install:

    1. NJIT-owned computers which are members of the campus domains

      Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 7

McAfee VirusScan is automatically installed and centrally managed to allow for rapid deployment of product updates and quick response to newly discovered threats.

If you feel McAfee VirusScan is not functioning properly on your NJIT-owned computer, please contact the IST HelpDesk ASAP.

    2. NJIT-owned computers which are NOT members of the campus domain
      Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 7

If your computer is not a member of NJIT campus domains, please visit the IST software download page to download and install VirusScan Enterprise (McAfee). This software will help protect your computer from viruses, malware and spyware.

    3. Personally-owned computers of NJIT community members
      Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 7

Please visit the IST software download page to download and install VirusScan Enterprise (McAfee). This software will help protect your computer from viruses, malware and spyware. You are only allowed to install this software on personal computers  if you are an NJIT student.

  2. Update your VirusScan software with the most recent virus definitions updater. Simply download and run the updater program. To best keep your computer protected against virus attacks, please update McAfee VirusScan on a weekly basis by using the built-in auto update feature.

  3. Run a complete virus scan of your computer. Right-click the McAfee icon on the bottom-right of your screen, with the white 'M' in the red shield. Select Scan Computer for Threats then click Start. Let the virus scan complete before you begin using the computer again.
    • VirusScan will delete any detected infections. You may need to restart your computer to complete the removal process.
    • If your computer was blocked by NJIT due to an infection, once your computer has been disinfected, please visit http://mymacchecker.njit.edu from a different computer to have your PC allowed back on to the NJIT network.

Remember NO anti-virus package is 100% guaranteed. The NJIT community must exercise caution when using the Internet.
