The NJIT Virus Protection Center is your one stop place to protect and disinfect your computer against virus attacks. Follow the steps listed to maintain a clean and healthy computer.
Download and run McAfee AVERT Stinger. This will detect and remove most new virus threats that might be presently on your computer. Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist users when dealing with an infected system. Once Stinger is open, click SCAN NOW. If you have additional hard drives, please ADD the drive letter.
Install and Run McAfee VirusScan. Please download the appropriate version for your computer. You are only allowed to install this software if you have an NJIT-owned computer or are a registered full-time student.
NJIT-Owned Computers Only:
Windows Vista / XP / 2000 / NT Users: Install McAfee VirusScan Enterprise . When you are asked for a "License Expiration Type," select Perpetual. Please reboot your system if you are asked to.
If you have run VirusScan from Step 2 and it deletes the virus, but your computer gets reinfected update your Windows OS. Repeat this step several times until all critical updates have been installed.
Run a complete virus scan of your computer. Right-click the icon on the bottom-right of your screen, with the red V. Select "On-Demand Scan..." From the VirusScan window, click "Scan Now." Let the virus scan complete before you begin using the computer again.
Your computer should now be clean from viruses. To keep your computer protected against future virus attacks, please update McAfee VirusScan on a weekly basis by using the built in auto update feature or by downloading the latest virus definitions update found in step 3. Learn to avoid computer viruses that spread through e-mail.
Once your computer has been disinfected, please visit http://mymacchecker.njit.edu from a different computer to have your PC allowed back on to the NJIT network.
