Mobile Devices at NJIT
Mobile Devices at NJIT

There are many different types of cell phones and personal devices that are popular today. These devices are used to receive email, maintain calendars, text messaging, and  as a telephone. Every individual brand has multiple models, and each model may have different capabilities. This is complicated further by differing software depending on the service provider. For instance, there are now four major Blackberry models in common use and four different service providers for each model. Therefore four different implementations of the mobile device software can exist for each of the four different Blackberry models. The proliferation of these devices and the service providers has made it necessary for Academic Computing Services, including the HelpDesk, to define the level of support we can provide.

IST prioritizes support for all primary computing devices such as desktop & laptop computers before support for secondary devices such as phones and other personal devices. Mobile device support consists of email and calendar related issues. In addition, mobile device support is prioritized in the following manner:

  • Blackberry and iPhone devices
Any Blackberry or iPhone less than three years old has the highest level of priority for mobile device support.
  • All other mobile devices
Any non-Blackberry or iPhone device issues will be addressed as time allows.
