AFS Password
Password Expiration
Password expiration is in effect for AFS accounts. Password change will be enforced by expiring the password after 120 days. In the AFS Kerberos implementation used at NJIT, days before password expiration are measured from the date of the last password change. At the point when a user's AFS password expires, that user no longer has access to his/her AFS account. However, the user still has 30 days after the date of password expiration in which to change the password (i.e., a 30-day grace period), and regain access to the account.

Remember to change all client application passwords that authenticate to AFS to your current AFS password every time you change your AFS password! If you are running client applications - e.g., email, ftp, etc. - that use your AFS password, you must change the password that those clients use to your current AFS password. Along with the AFS password expiration of 120 days, there is a limit of 5 consecutive failed logins within an approximately 30 minute period, which will will lock out a user for about 30 minutes from the time of the fifth failed login. Typical causes of repeated failed login attempts are email (IMAP or POP) and/or ftp clients on your computer, that are using an incorrect AFS password for your account.
