Open Source is a term used to define software in which the "source", or programming code, is made available for viewing and editing through a copyright license or "public domain" status. This permits users to use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified form. The menu below offers more information on Open Source software for both the Windows and Mac OS. Linux/Solaris has not been included because a majority of Linux/Solaris software is open source.
