1: What is A UCID?

A University Computing ID (UCID) is your key to access NJIT's computing environment. It is your username for all computing systems at NJIT. All members of the NJIT community must obtain a UCID to access any computing systems at NJIT. More information can be found on the UCID & Campus Directory Information web site.

2: What is my UCID or how do I get one?

To determine what your UCID is, please visit Campus Directory Search.

If you are not in the Campus Directory but are a member of the NJIT community, you must create a UCID and complete your directory entry.

You may create a UCID if you are:

A) an accepted student.

B) a new faculty or staff member who has completed the necessary paperwork at the Office of Human Resources. Please note that first-time adjunct faculty, who have not completed paperwork at the Office of Human Resources at Fenster Hall room 500, may still be authorized for a UCID by following these special instructions.

3: How can I change my UCID password myself?

In order to change your UCID password, you must access the UCID Password Change form.

4: My password isn't working. How can I reset it?

NJIT has a rich and heterogeneous computing environment, supporting a wealth of applications and services across many different operating systems and platforms. Because of this, passwords are maintained separately. To facilitate the management of  multiple passwords, Information Services and Technology has implemented a password management system that allows you to reset your own password.

If you are unable to access any of your accounts because of a password issue, you can reset it using the Unattended Password Reset (UPR) process. The UPR process will change the password of your University Computing ID (UCID) and the password of any other computing accounts associated with your UCID.

A. If you have not used UPR before or you created your UCID prior to November 2004: UPR requires that you go through a one-time registration process. Please follow these directions to register to use UPR:

In Person:

Visit The Walk-in Helpdesk to fill out a registration form. The Walk-in Helpdesk is located in room 48 of the Student Mall. You will be asked to show photo identification. Once you fill out the form and show photo ID, the Helpdesk staff will issue you a Temporary Access Code. The Temporary Access Code will allow you to access the Unattended Password Reset Process (UPR) for the first time, reset your password, and allow you to reset your password yourself from that time forward.

By Fax:

Fill out the form found here and fax it to 973-596-2905. Once the Helpdesk receives your fax they will call you within 25 minutes of having received it, during normal business hours, to issue you a Temporary Access Code. The Temporary Access Code will allow you to access the Unattended Password Reset Process (UPR) for the first time, reset your password, and allow you to reset your password yourself from that time forward.. Normal business hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

B. If you have used UPR already or you created your UCID after October 2004:

  1. If you are a student, staff, or faculty member and you have already registered to use UPR, please go to http://mypassword.njit.edu to reset your password yourself, anytime of day or night.

  2. If you are alumni and you have already registered to use UPR, please go to https://mypassword.njitalumni.org to reset your password yourself, anytime of day or night.

5: Can student clubs and organizations create a UCID?

Student organizations, a club, fraternities, and sororities are eligible to have a club UCID and club Highlander AFS account.  A UCID will allow the club to be listed in the campus directory.

The club's faculty or staff advisor must contact the Computing Helpdesk to request the club accounts.

A Highlander AFS account will give clubs the ability to host web content. All clubs will receive the standard 125mb disk allocation. The url for the club website will be in the form http://web.njit.edu/ ~clubname .

E-mail

Clubs will receive an official NJIT e-mail address in the form clubUCID @njit.edu . All e-mail sent to this address will automatically be forwarded over to the club's OAK mailbox. Clubs will use oak.njit.edu to send and receive e-mail.

Club Account Access

  1. Log in to any of the machines afs1.njit.edu - afs36.njit.edu
in *your own* AFS account (not the club account).

    Once logged in:
  2. ssh -l <club_name> <machine_name>
e.g., if your club name is "clubnjit", and you are logged into
    afs16: ssh -l clubnjit afs16

<club_name> = the club account you wish to access
<machine_name> = the name of the AFS machine you are logged into (in your own AFS account) when you issue the above "ssh" command
on any of the machines afs1.njit.edu - afs36.njit.edu

6: I'm an international student, is there any specific information I should be aware of?

If you are an international student attending NJIT, you may not have a valid US Social Security Number. If this is the case, the Office of Univeristy Admissions will have assigned a temporary Social Security-like number to you.  This number begins with 000, is 9 digits long, and can be found on your acceptance letter.

You need a Social Security Number or Student ID to create your NJIT University Computing ID (UCID). A UCID is required for everyone who is a member of the NJIT community. For more information about what a UCID provides you with, click here.

Please note that when creating your UCID, it is important to enter all your information, including your name, exactly as it appears on the acceptance letter you received from the Office of University Admissions even if you believe it is incorrect!!!
This is because the information you enter must be the same as the information we have on record, or else your UCID will not be created. Corrections can be made after you create your UCID by contacting the IST Helpdesk.

Click here to create your UCID.

If you have any additional questions, please contact the IST Helpdesk by calling 973-596-2900.
