Office 2007 Compatibility
Office 2007 Compatibility

Office 2007 offers no significant advantage over Office 2003. IST does not recommend that members of the NJIT community upgrade to Office 2007 upon its release. However, please read below for compatibility issues Office 2007 files have with previous versions of Office.

Office 2007 differs considerably from previous versions of Office in both appearance and underlying functionality, resulting in a steep learning curve new users must overcome. Once NJIT releases Office 2007, do not upgrade until you have received proper training from IST regarding the major differences. Training classes will be offered through the Teaching, Learning, and Technology website. Once classes have been scheduled, you can register by visiting that page and clicking the appropriate Register link.

Highlighted below is one major difference between Office 2007 and previous versions of Office: the introduction of a new file format (Open XML), which is incompatible with all previous versions of Office. For more information on the new file format, please refer to the list below:

  • To enable the use of Office 2007 documents in Office 2003 or Office XP, click here
