Spyware, Adware, and Malware
Spyware, Adware, and Malware

Spyware, adware, and malware refer to a types of malicious software designed to take partial control of a computer without the knowledge of the user.  These programs typically monitor the activity of a user and sent that information to a hacker over the Internet.  Some simply launch popup windows with advertisements. 

These programs typically affect computers running a Microsoft Windows operating system.

To remove these programs:

  1. Download the Windows Defender (Beta 2) or another spyware removal tool such as Ad-Aware or Spybot.
  2. Run the tool to scan your computer for spyware and other unwanted software.
  3. Review the files discovered by the tool for spyware and other unwanted software.
  4. Select suspicious files for removal by following the tool's instructions.
