On Tuesday January 8, 2008, there was a change in the types of ftp connections allowed into the public-access computers afsN.njit.edu, N=1,2..,35. These computers are the main access points from off-campus into the AFS file space. As of January 8, insecure ftp into these computers will no longer be supported. This means that FTP clients such as Unix/Linux ftp and Windows WS-FTP will no longer work for connecting to these computers. Users must use a secure FTP software client instead, such as Unix/Linux sftp or Windows SSH. SSH is available from NJIT's software download Website - see the URL below; sftp is available by default on Unix/Linux systems.
This change is being made for security reasons; it follows the disabling of telnet into afsN.njit.edu in September 2007, also done for security reasons.
