All Highlander AFS accounts automatically have a yourUCID@oak.njit.edu e-mail address.  Stored oak e-mail does not count against a user's Highlander AFS quota of 125 Mbytes.  Stored Oak e-mail is backed up to tape daily.  By December 2006, an additional, on-line, backup of Oak e-mail which will run every hour is expected to be in place.

E-mail on Oak can be accessed using an IMAP or POP e-mail client, such as Thunderbird, Pine, dtmail or Outlook.  Use "oak.njit.edu" as the incoming mail server to retrieve your e-mail with one of these clients.  Detailed instructions for using these mail clients can be found here.

E-mail on Oak can also be accessed from any of the public-access machines afs1.njit.edu - afs36.njit.edu; all Highlander AFS accounts are valid on those machines.  On those machines, command-line e-mail clients such as mailx, mail, pine, elm, mush, and mutt can be used to access mail on Oak.

E-mail on Oak can also be accessed via command-line e-mail clients on various faculty and laboratory Unix and Linux machines.

If you choose to use Oak as your primary e-mail system, be sure to configure mail forwarding from your Mailhost account by updating your Campus Directory entry and entering your UCID@oak.njit.edu e-mail address in the proper field.

If you choose not to use the Oak e-mail system, configure mail forwarding from within your Highlander AFS account to forward to your Mailhost account.
